Welcome to Harper Greer!
My husband, John, and I founded Harper Greer over 30 years ago! Yes––that means we’ve lived and worked together all that time!
We began by selling our line for plus size women to stores all over the country; Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and more. After a few years of wholesale and having “factory outlet” sales in our loft, we decided to ditch the wholesale division and sell exclusively to our customers. We had more fun interacting directly with the women who bought our clothes.
For many years we had a retail stores in San Francisco and Berkeley. The economy got the best of us in 2011 and we closed both stores and moved home to sell online and
through home parties. Soon after, we decided to re-invent ourselves!
In the summer of 2012, we found the perfect spot in Uptown Oakland to open a new store. We’ve always lived in the Oakland/Piedmont area and wanted a store closer to home. We enlisted our friend and customer, Joanne Mullin, (she’s also our model!) to design our store. She found furniture and accessories for the store in consignment shops here in the East Bay. She painted a beautiful mural, recolored the furniture It quickly came together with all of us working on it and we opened in November 2012.
We’ve changed a couple of things about our business since we re-opened. We no longer make all of the clothes for our store. We buy other lines for our store.
It’s really fun being a buyer and it gives us tons of variety in the store. We sell sizes 8-24 and we call our look “Curvy Style”. We sell scarves, jewelry, handbags, socks and tights and lots of other accessories.
We love our new location! It’s an up and coming neighborhood with lots of exciting things going on. The Oakland Art Murmur happens the first Friday of every month. We have at least 8 great restaurants, including Pican, Luka’s Taproom, Ozumo, Plum, Hawker Fare and Izzie’s Steak House all within a block of our store. The Paramount Theater is a couple of blocks away. They host a monthly speakers series, classic movies, the Oakland Symphony and more.
